When we were asked to team up with Marriott Weddings #BigDayYourWay to talk about the theme of Classic Romance, well, it was the perfect fit. Here at Bridal Musings we love all things cool, unique and stylish, but really, we’re hopeless romantics at heart. Having a wedding that’s all about Classic Romance doesn’t mean adhering to every tradition or incorporating every cliche [cliché]. It’s about including the details that mean something to you, and creating a beautiful day that leaves both you two and your guests, filled with warm, fuzzy, romantic vibes.
Think simple touches like creating a playlist that’s crammed with big love songs, to lighting rose scented candles that get your guests feeling the love the moment they walk into the room, to more big ticket choices, like finding a gorgeous venue that sets the tone for your day (Marriott has a few pretty spectacular ones!) and selecting a great photographer who you’ll both feel comfortable cosying up in front of. Including Classic Romance in your wedding day style is easy.
Vintage-loving brides can keep things pretty and elegant in long sleeve lace or a tea-length dresses, glamorous brides could opt for the princess-worthy ballgown, and more fashion-forward brides could opt for a classic style in a blush hue or floral print to give it a more current twist. For the guys, Classic Romance is kind of all about the tuxedo - though think about going white tie for an even more princely feel. And as for the accessories, ask your family about any vintage heirlooms you might be able to borrow for your big day, your mum’s veil, a family ring, or an antique brooch - there’s something so special about having prized pieces with you on such a significant day.
When it comes to your ceremony, you can infuse every element with a touch of romance. Spend time researching readings with lots of meaning, and feature songs that bring back memories for you both. Writing your own vows is another really lovely way to make your ceremony more intimate and personal. And fill your ceremony space with candles too for amped up atmosphere - we love the idea of a ceremony at night too. So romantic!
For your reception, there are so many ways you can get creative and lace your party with sweet details. A little luxury ties in perfectly with the theme of Classic Romance, think gold cutlery, fine china, coloured glass, or calligraphy escort cards and menus. For florals, it’s all about texture and abundance, soft peonies and cabbage roses, with trailing foliage and raw silk ribbons.
Fragrance is important too, so ask your florist if they can include some beautiful scents in your bouquet, like jasmine, rosemary, or lavender. For food, Classic Romance is all about refined cuisine, a formal sit-down dinner works well with the theme, as does a family style feast. Avoid anything too heavy, hog roasts and BBQs are fun for relaxed weddings, but this theme calls for slightly more elegant catering. A cheese plate or macaroons with dessert is a sophisticated touch.
Creating that ambience is all in the final finishing touches, flowing wine, great conversation, some music bubbling in the background, (jazz or blues are particularly fitting) and atmospheric lighting, will come together to strike that perfect chord. Look to your favourite date night restaurants for inspiration and recreate the vibe.
So really Classic Romance is what you make of it. Sit down with your partner and talk about what’s romantic to you both, and what you think will work for your day. You can always opt for touches of classic style or romantic details while blending in more modern or informal elements too. After all, it’s your #BigDayYourWay.
